Practice: 

• day 1 – Calligraphy chancery writing – exploring "variations" coming from this writing, by changing x-height, tool, rythm etc.
• day 2 – Drawing selected letters on tracing paper.
• day 3 – Beginning of digitalization in Font Lab.

The lecture will be a presentation showing connections between Calligraphy and Typography
and introducing into double pencil method.
There will be presenting a typeface design inspired by hand written and script based examples.

Zamek Cieszyn i Fundacja Znaczy się zapraszają na wykład i warsztaty poświęcone projektowaniu kompleksowych systemów informacji wizualnej.
Wykładowca the School of Design Uniwersytetu Carnegie Mellon w Pittsburghu, profesor Dan Boyarski już po raz drugi gości w Polsce. Tym razem swój wykład i warsztaty dla międzynarodowej grupy uczestników poświęci projektowaniu złożonych systemów informacji od diagramów na papierze do kompleksowych rozwiązań dynamicznych. Zarówno wykład jak i zajęcia warsztatowe będą prowadzone w języku angielskim. W trakcie warsztatów uczestnicy nauczą się analizować i porządkować kompleksowe dane, tworząc struktury hierarchiczne, ze wskazaniem na połączenia między publikowanymi informacjami. Omawiane i ćwiczone praktycznie będą zarówno działania typograficzne jak i piktograficzne, służące budowie architektury wielopoziomowych komunikatów wizualnych.
W pierwszej fazie te działania będą prowadzone na papierze, w formie diagramów i schematów. Na tym etapie stosowanie narzędzi komputerowych nie jest konieczne. W drugiej części warsztatów, w oparciu o przygotowane obrazy danych, uczestnicy podejmą pracę nad tworzeniem komunikatu dynamicznego, z elementami interakcji. Nauczą się tworzyć algorytmy, ułatwiające współpracę z informatykami, lub samodzielnie wykonają publikację danych. Tu, w zależności od stopnia zaawansowania uczestnika, stosowane będą narzędzia informatyczne, w tym zarówno gotowe oprogramowanie jak i elementy samodzielnego programowania.
W wyniku ćwiczeń praktycznych powstaną prezentacje projektów, pozwalające zrozumieć i zrealizować rzeczywistą publikację rozbudowanej struktury informacyjnej, takiej jak, na przykład, kompleksowe dane dotyczące procesu lub zjawiska ze wskazaniem na połączenia między tymi danymi.

In the 3rd edition of the competition, for the first time additional special mentions were granted by children participating in the Future Artist workshop ran by Ewa Kokot.
Winners of all prizes and mentions will be notified personally and presented at the exhibition opening on April 23, 2012 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice Rondo Sztuki Gallery.
For April 23 we have prepared a series of events related to children’s books. We cordially invite all book lovers and authors to participate.
